All in the Family

“All in the Family”
A Few Brief Comments, regarding this month’s film, “Born Hungry”
Mountain Shadow Director, John Bennison

I classify this month’s film selection a “drama-documentary” because -- unlike the common perception of a documentary film -- “Born Hungry” ascends above your typical cinematic fact-finding / interview-laden presentation to tell a personal story in such a way that the viewer is taken on an adventure that is both telling and touching. It is also a contemporay immigrant story that reminds us that the global village we collectively inhabit knows no boundaries.

In addition to the tale of a 5-star chef retracing his international roots that remain a mystery is the back-story of a truly remarkable Canadian couple that sought out and raised thirty-two orphans found wandering the street of a “foreign” country on the other side of the globe.

This a quintessential immigrant success story; as well as the best kind of “family” film. Particularly at the historical juncture in which we find ourselves these days. jb
